The End... for now

So I'm back home. Tired and sore, but I got out there and did it. Glyde Around Britain is now looking like a several-year project but that is no major problem. I have a target for my cycling for that period. Something to aim for keeping the winter training in.

  1. when you are up for it, how 'bout a long Glyde review? Good/bad/ugly - we want to know!
I'm glad to see you are planning on more next year, that must mean despite the tendinitis, you had a good time.
    Congrats.

  2. Of course.... It is amazing how long yet how short 15 days away feels. Sitting at home now feels strangely like I'm playing hookie from school...
As I'll be resting my ankle for the next few days, rehydrating and refueling I'm planning on posting on how well both the Glyde and other kit behaved...
Glyde Summary: For this trip the Glyde was a much better choice than my Quest. There are some changes I'd make, but nothing that will give Greenspeed any nightmares!!!

  3. Hey rob such a pity about the tendon, but after a bit of rest it should clear up.I was wondering why you thought the glyde to be much better than the quest for the trip?could you elaborate as im planning on getting a velomobile in the not to distant future.John.

  4. Hi John,
I'll post a full review of the Glyde in the next day or two. The primary improvements of the Glyde over the Quest for this journey were the availability of disc brakes and wide range touring gearing. The model I was riding had twin BB7 disc brakes, Schlumph Mountain Drive and SRAM Dual Drive.
I'll talk about this in more detail when I write the review.

  5. Sorry about the injury but I'm impressed with your positive spin on the whole thing. Good luck with the recovery and preparations for stage 2.

  6. Hey, I could have just sat at home and not even attempted the trip. I've been out, I've ridden parts of the country I wouldn't otherwise have even tried (the South East of England is notoriously over-occupied and car-blighted, but I seemed to manage to avoid most of that!).
The biggest problem was simply setting off on a ride that arrived the week before departure. This was mainly due to a series of production problems that I thought I'd allowed enough time for when I started planning a year back. But hey, my bike wasn't ready for the trip but Greenspeed came through with the goods and loaned me a machine so I did get out there!
